rabbits

rare and heritage breeds

Why rabbits?  They are quiet, have almost no odor, can be fed on many foraged and local feeds, and are a real pleasure to work with.  We raise Silver Fox, Cinnamons, and Standard Rex.  These breeds have allowed us to raise excellent meat, as well as enjoying a diverse rainbow of breeds.  All animals on our farm are selected for their productivity.  This means relatively quick growth, large litters, and good mothering ability.

all White meat. high protein. low fat. delicious.

Rabbit raising has a long history.  There are early stories of Romans keeping wild rabbits, actual domestication beginning with monks in the 1600's, and evolving to today's rabbitries on homesteads and farms.  They are a fantastic place to begin your farming adventure or to diversify your existing operation.  Our "grow out" rabbits are all raised in traditional "morants" and moved 1-2 times a day to fresh pasture.  They are fed a local mix of alfalfa, grain, and hay free choice, with as much organic ingredient as possible.  The housing allows free of movement and full expression of their behaviors.  Not only does this allow the best life for the rabbit, it also is fantastic for the farmer and the land.  Breeding stock rabbits live in the barn, enjoying the same diet as the youngsters on pasture.

high animal welfare. COMMITMENT to the earth.

Rabbit is delicious in dishes that typically call for chicken or veal.  They yield 100% white meat, with a mild flavor.  Not only are they excellent for the table, but our pets love both whole and ground rabbit as well.
