Agriculture can be consumptive of resources, but it doesn't have to be! You can enjoy meat from our farm, knowing that is was grown in concert with the other living things. Wild birds nest, huge varieties of plants grow, we cohabitate with wildlife, beneficial insects multiply, and carbon is sequestered in our soil.
Grass based farming works in concert with nature, sharing habitats with wildlife and plants, while enhancing fertility. People often ask me how I can love animals so much and still harvest them for meat. My answer is simple. I care for them so much, that I need to raise them to know they had a happy, healthy life before being harvested. Each decision is made with the animal and earth in mind. How can I create a life that the animal can fully express the behaviors it needs to? How can it live a life free of stress and full of nutrition? By working to answer these questions, we are not only helping the animal to live the best life it can, we are also helping to regenerate and preserve the earth, while creating nutrient dense foods that are healthy and nourishing for the eater.
